What exactly does Cut off mean?

Cut off mark is one of the most important criteria for admission into any tertiary institution.

The Cut off mark for a particular school or course is simply the minimum score you must have to get admitted. Cut off marks come in two phases:

  • General cut off mark:¬†This is the JAMB cutoff set by the school. All candidates must score above it to be considered for admission.
  • Departmental cut off mark: This is set by the school senate based on the performance of candidates applying for a course. So, the higher your score, the higher your admission chances.

NOTE:  The fact that you met the general cut off mark does not guarantee admission.
